Just saw something on the news about some pubs in the UK being open 24 hours a day. How will the powers to be determine which ones will be allowed this gratuity? The size of the town or by vote of the people? Hope this doesn't cause a furror like my last 2 post did.

By application to the local authorities, I think.

Valium is right each pub that wants to stay open for 24 hours has to apply for a licence then depending on police reports on area trouble ect its either granted or not

Thats about it ken. City of Westminster (real london) has said it will not grant the licences. Other councils are debating but will allow 24 hr drinking. Its a foolish thing to bring in i think. Yes the europeans do it, but they dont have the same culture we have. Binge drinking is not a problem in europe as it is here. Take France for example, they have children drink watered down wine at meal time, to us its silly. But the child respects the wine and is in time allowed to choose. To finish, a note to 1313 A post that makes people think and react is a damm good one. yours was a damm good one. As was said a "good mornin" is okies. Yours has made people think. In my book thats a good move. oxo

only 700 out of 190,000 have applied for the 24 hour licence and most of them, if not all will be turned down for one reason or another. The Police, Fire Brigade, Child Welfare, Councils and others all have a say on each licenced premises. I can assure you that there will be very, very little 24 hour drinking. What alot of people dont understand is that this new licencing act doesnt just cover drinking either. It is for Plays, Live Music, Hot Food and virtually anything else that falls in the entertainment bracket. One licence does all.

IMO - 24 hour opening will stop binge drinking to a certain degree - that can only be a good thing!!

24 hr drinking will relax the uptight attitudes to public socialising in uk, those of us who live in uk have all seen the last minute scramble for the bar near closing time, this way it lightens up. if i want a midnight glass or 2 with me m8's why the hell not!
